This is much earlier than last year’s Spring Loaded event and the first time Apple has announced the release date and pricing for the first-generation Apple Watch since 2015. However, with a long list of products due to be released in 2022, it would be surprising to begin things so soon. At the event, Apple is expected to unveil a new iPhone SE, a refresh to the nearly two-year-old model. The new iPhone SE is widely expected to retain the same retro design while adding 5G networking, a newer chip, and improved cameras while maintaining the $399 price tag. Along with the new phone, Apple is expected to release a refreshed iPad Air with similar upgrades, including 5G, a better camera, and an A15 processor. A new MacBook Air could be a surprise at the event. Apple’s 2021 spring event heralded the release of a new 24-inch iMac, so a consumer Mac would be a good fit here as well. A refreshed iPhone SE and iPad Air aren’t enough to carry an event on their own, but a redesigned MacBook Air would. Michael Simon has been covering Apple since the iWalk was called the iPod. His fascination with technology dates back to his first computer, an IBM Thinkpad with a lift-up keyboard for swapping outdrives. To be honest, he’s still waiting for that to become fashionable again.
