The long-awaited team of Cabinet Secretaries has been unveiled by President William Ruto. While some of the mentioned people were expected to be included on the list, others remain unknown to many. Eliud Owalo is one of them, and after being approved by parliament, he will now serve as the CS for ICT. Eliud replaces Joe Mucheru, who held the ICT docket for the previous seven or so years. After being nominated, the newly appointed ICT CS Eliud Owalo thanked President William Ruto. He claimed that being appointed gave him the chance to serve the nation and aid the President in fulfilling his campaign promises. “I take this early opportunity to sincerely thank the President and Commander in Chief of the Defense Forces of the Republic of Kenya, Dr. William Samoei Ruto for having nominated me to serve Kenyans as the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy,” he said on Tuesday. Owalo added that the Ministry of ICT is a crucial area for the growth of the nation and thanked Ruto for giving him the responsibility of leading it. Upon taking office, he made a commitment to work hard. “There is no greater honour than to serve one’s country. I promise to be responsive to the needs of Kenyans and to serve selflessly with diligence and efficacy,” he said. “Overall, I thank the almighty God for giving me this opportunity to serve my countrymen and women as by serving God’s people, you serve God.” The leader promised to release a declaration about his mandate and how to carry out the associated legal requirements. In order to forward his platform, Ruto appointed 15 men and 7 women to the government on Tuesday. We shall have to wait and watch if he follows in Mucheru’s footsteps. In order to make the ICT department as rewarding as possible for the Kenyan people, he might also devise his own plans.
