The feature would let users adjust the Sensitive Content Control to see more or less of some types of sensitive content. Earlier, Instagram had rolled out the Restrict option to stop unknown users from interacting. The photo-sharing app had given users the control to turn off the comments entirely to stop unnecessary harassment on its platform. Announcing the new feature, Instagram said in a blog post: “Today we’re launching Sensitive Content Control on Instagram, which allows you to decide how much sensitive content shows up in Explore. We believe people should be able to shape Instagram into the experience that they want. We’ve started to move in this direction with tools like the ability to turn off comments or Restrict someone from interacting with you on Instagram.” What kind of content do they mean? Instagram in the blog said that the app has recommendation guidelines that were designed to ensure that the app does not show you sensitive content from accounts you don’t follow. The Facebook-owned app explains that sensitive content does not mean anything explicitly bad as the app does not allow hate speech, bullying or other content that might present a risk of harm to people. It could be posts that do not violate the Instagram guidelines but could be upsetting to some people. For instance, posts that are sexually suggestive or violent. Everybody has a different definition of sensitive content. What is sensitive to you, may not be sensitive to the other person. So the new feature gives complete control to users over sensitive content. You can decide whether you want to see posts of a specific nature or not. You can also control whether those posts should appear on your Explore feed or not. To enable the feature, go to your profile, tap the Settings menu in the upper right corner, tap Account, then tap Sensitive Content Control. You can either keep the setting at its default state, limit or to see more, Allow, or less of some types of sensitive content, Limit Even More.
