1. It can turn sexual real fast

There are a lot of men out there that assume the date is just something to get through to get to the sex after. This can happen on any date, regardless if you met online or not. I once joined Tinder for a few days and came out simply because the guys that hit on me wanted a quick fix, especially foreigners who were around for a few days and just wanted to feast on a Kenyan girl then go back.

2. Some people on social media are pathological liars

People lie about whether they’re even single, if they have kids, their job, their looks, you name it. But how are you supposed to know if they’re the real deal? It’s different when you know them from work or your friends. You can always do a little investigating about whether they are in fact single, what they do for a living and so on. That’s very hard to do online. You have no choice but take their word for it, at least for the time being.

3. Long-distance is not easy

You have no idea if anything that person has said about themselves or in their profile is accurate, ie., “loves children” and you also don’t know if that person isn’t having a long distance relationship with someone else or several other people for that matter. Building trust in such a situation is almost impossible because they can even have someone physically with them anyways.

4. People can look real different in person

Even if you post real pictures of yourself in your profile, people can look different in person. The trouble with online dating is that when you do finally decide to meet, there can be so much emphasis on the whole looks thing. Unfortunately human beings are visual human beings, so if you lied about your height, weight or lied that the wig on your picture was your hair, it can be a big problem.

5. It’s a lot harder to sell your personality in an online space

There are so many tutorials that tell you what to say or what to do so that you don’t scare the other person because let’s face it, there are enough weirdos in the online community. It’s a lot easier to try and court someone you’ve seen physically then you can decide if you like their personality than trying to sell yourself. The online dating world sends the message to people that you’re not good enough the way you are.
