Today, the team released the results for the Galaxy Note 8, it is the first device in history to get a perfect score of 100 in photo capture abilities. DxOMark called it the “the current class-leader for stills”, they praised its zoom function, preservation of details in photos and the fast and accurate autofocus. The device comes with a 12MP dual camera, one of the shooters is a telephoto lens used for zooming in into subjects. The phone came with the world first optical image stabilization(OIS) on both rear cameras. It seems the effort paid off well as DxOMark called it “the best smartphone for zooming”. The images remain stable even when fully zoomed at 2X. One of the demerits of the camera was limited dynamic range which only happened in challenging high contrast scenes, otherwise all other aspects were top notch. On the video section, the device lost some points, with a score of 84, Galaxy Note 8 was behind chart-toppers like Google Pixel which has the highest rating of 91, followed by 89 of the iPhone 8 Plus and HTC U11. In overall, Galaxy Note 8 scored 94, the same score as the iPhone 8 Plus and the highest of any android phone out there. This effectively makes the two devices share the number one spot on the DxOMark ranking. What makes this result so amazing is that it was Samsung’s first crack at the dual camera technology, usually first trails aren’t always the best but the company proved everyone wrong. Now we are waiting to see if the LG V30 and the Pixel 2 duo getting launched tonight can beat these scores.
