After teasing Professional Profiles last month, Twitter is now officially testing the new profile type with a small group of businesses in the U.S. The new profile type is meant to make it easier for “businesses, non-profits, publishers, and creators” (or anyone who uses Twitter for business reasons) to display more specific business information on their profile. Will it increase interactions? It is also expected to help increase the interactions on the platform as people will have more context around the type of accounts they interact with. From the mockups, we can see that Professional Profiles will differ from personal profiles in several ways. For example, there is a more detailed bio with a map and website link – and call-to-actions that help users contact a business more easily. Other elements include an image gallery, a shop section, and an app store link. It’s not clear if these will be included in the final product. Professional Profiles may also include the business category and a new business badge – like a verification of the business itself. It is not clear whether a business needs to be verified before switching to a professional profile.
